大阪來的禮物/Gifts From Osaka

In college I took 1.5 years of Japanese and going to Japan became one of my dreams. Ten years later this dream finally came true and with help from my dad and his friends Uncle Bill from the American National Science Foundation and Peter from University of California, San Diego, I also got to work at Cybermedia Center and Biogrid, also known as Shimojo's Labs, in Osaka. During my stay I travelled to interesting places in Japan with Tomoko, her family and my own family a number of times. My Japanese teacher became a good friend, I met three wonderful students sent to Shimojo's Labs by Peter, and I grew attached to the researchers, students and employees at the Labs. Each morning I woke up and couldn't wait for the day to begin, and each night I climbed into bed with a content smile. Those months were indeed the best time of my life. This summer my friend Grace went to Osaka and came back with gifts of friendship that put a big smile and few streaks of tears on my face.
Shimojo-sensei: Did you get a tan or is it natural? You look fantastic and young!
Peter: Thanks for the bottle of wine. Dad and I killed it already!!
Teri: The yukata looks beautiful on you. Did you put that on by yourself? I could never learn to do it...
The Kosaka's: So wonderful to see Tomomi and Jigen! Where's Tak? I hope you try the recipe book and also, let's use webcam next time!
Nozaki-sensei: Thanks for managing JFC. I cannot think of a better chairman than 'Crazy Zaki-chan.' And you certainly don't look fat.
Akiyama-sensei: You still look like Pei-sama, except your poses are much more attractive!
Ichigawa-san: Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me. I hope everything works out for you!
Nagakawa-san: You grew your hair back!! Love it and please keep it!
Tashiro-san: Nice poses, as usual. You look like John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever in one of the pictures!
Takeda-san (spell??), Date-sensei, the beautiful lady, others: Thanks for being in these pictures. It's great to see you : ). And for those who are not in these pictures, I miss you too.
And finally, Grace: Your thoughtful message and collages really had an effect on me. They are sweet and most of all, made me feel as if I was there too. Thanks for the souvenir as well!

I LOVE JAPAN, I LOVE OSAKA!!

Hehe, since I have so much spare time on my hands, I always read your emails to their entirety. However, I do have to say that someone did confess to me that s/he just skims it. So I am going to frequent your blog... so I can be like Ronnie and catch the wave of the future. I keep making fun of him for reading blogs on Seattle Housing.

Sorry I can't translate this into Chinese, you have to help me.

Love you lots,
Monica

I was surprised when I got Jenning's message with Taiwanese code first (though I could decode them and understand 30% of them).

Anyway it's nice to see she finally started her blog.

I'm a Shimojo-lab alumni and has still been a researcher there. Today Maeno-san, Tashiro-san, and Noro-san will give their PhD thesis presentations. I'll be there. Kosaka-san did last week (I wasn't there). They're surely working the hardest, as they have been doing so.

BTW I'm originally from Tokyo and for my further details check out http://www.k2r.org/kenji/

I'm happy to tell you all that I can read at least all the Taiwanese (Traditional Chinese) characters and I can at least imagine what you all say. Unfortunately I don't have skills to read/write Chinese so allow me to write in English (with a bit of American accent) here.

Time to run for the IST building in Suita Campus (of Osaka University)...

My pleasure, ma'am ~ we are all inspired by you! (I was going to say 'you rock' then I just remembered reading you blogging something about being a lady... :D)

From the minute I started to (re-)introduce myself as a friend of Jenning's, my popularity at the Osaka University Convention Center went from 0.2 to 12 (on a scale from 1 to 10) and I got so many smiley faces.

Mo: Who skims? Must be Clarie! She's coming to London next Jan, she's so dead. Thanks for reading my emails to their entirety, you are probably one of the few. Please continue to read, but also don't forget to update me with YOUR life! Keep your pictures coming too. :)

My beloved bro: Dude, I know you make my sis-in-law read them and recap them to you. Thanks for the support though, I love you! BTW, I read your blog, always. Feeling guilty? Good.;)

Rikitake-san: If you're reading both Chinese and English, don't read my comments to Wanda or Wanda's to me. They may confuse you. But do have a nice day at Suita Campus and please give JFC Chairman Nozaki-san my regards.

Gracie: When I said 'refrain' I meant some of my dear friends who like to use excrement-related words with me (they know who they are). Judging from the one year I've known you, you certainly don't have that habit. No worries. See you soon in London!

All four PhD candidates this year at Prof. Shimojo's lab have passed the presentation sessions. Now it's their time to work 24x7x45-pr-so for the dissertations...

Dentgrid!!!! Finally I see you, where have you been? I miss you! Thanks for mailing things for me. You are so busy and you had to go to the post office, wait in line, weigh the package and mail the things. You didn't have to do that, but thank you so so much. You are the best chairman.
